What Is the L-Box Apparatus Used For?
Self compacting concrete is placed without vibration, so it must flow under its own weight through the gaps between reinforcing bars without blocking or separating. Concrete is poured into the vertical hopper through the filling hopper and allowed to stand; when the gate is opened it flows through the row of 12 mm bars into the horizontal section. The heights of concrete at the two ends are then compared to give the passing ability ratio, with the bar gap set at 41±1 mm or 59±1 mm to suit the reinforcement spacing being represented.
