What Is the Fill Box Apparatus-Kajima Test Used For?

Filling ability is the capacity of self-compacting concrete to flow into formwork and fill it completely under its own weight, with no vibration. In the fill box test fresh concrete is poured into the container and allowed to flow until it comes to rest; because the container is transparent, the operator can see how far the concrete has filled it and where gaps remain, and so judge the filling ability of the mix. The apparatus is intended for self-compacting concrete in which the aggregate is no larger than 20 mm.

What is the largest aggregate size the fill box can be used with?
The fill box is intended for self-compacting concrete in which the maximum aggregate size is 20 mm.

What is the Kajima Test?
The Kajima Test is another name for the fill box test; the apparatus is a transparent container with a flat, smooth surface used to judge filling ability.

How large and heavy is the fill box?
The transparent container measures 500 × 300 × 900 mm, and its weight is approximately 5 kg.
