What Is the Sound Meter Used For?

A sound level meter turns the small air pressure changes of sound into a reading in decibels, a logarithmic scale that suits the very wide range of pressures the ear can hear, and the A-weighting used for dBA readings reduces low and very high frequencies to follow the response of the human ear. The user holds the meter with the microphone, covered by its sponge ball, pointed at the source, reads the level and uses maximum hold to catch the loudest moment, whether in a factory, near traffic, at home or on an audio system.
