What Is the Universal Bevel Protractor Used For?
Bevel protractors are used in toolrooms and inspection to measure the angle between two faces of a part, to set a part or a machine at a given angle, and to mark out angled lines. The user lays the beam against one face, swings the blade onto the other, locks it with the thumb nut and reads the whole degrees on the dial and the minutes on the vernier. With the beam and blade edges parallel, the swivel-plate line sits on the zero of the dial; angles of 90 degrees or less are read directly from the line's position against the dial graduations.
