Axial Flow Turbine Test Bed

Axial Flow Turbine Test Bed

Product Code : EL-TELE-10691

Quick Answer: The Axial Flow Turbine Test Bed is a self-contained jet-engine test rig built around a single-stage radial compressor, an annular combustion chamber and a low-mass, high-performance axial flow turbine, letting students safely start, run and measure a real gas turbine engine in the lab. It mounts the engine on a single-pivot thrust frame for accurate thrust measurement, runs under a preprogrammed electronic controller with automatic start-up and shutdown, and logs data to a PC over a single USB link, all behind a removable, transparent polycarbonate safety screen.

The Axial Flow Turbine Test Bed is an experimental axial flow engine-start turbine comprising a single-stage radial compressor, an annular combustion chamber and a low-mass, high-performance axial flow turbine. The engine is integrated into a sturdy metal frame that holds it firmly while enabling accurate measurement of the thrust it produces, and its inlet has been replaced with a custom-fabricated frontal duct so that the air mass flow rate can be measured accurately. A tough, transparent polycarbonate screen makes the apparatus completely safe while still providing excellent visibility of the engine in use, and the screen is removable to allow full access to the engine and instrumentation. An electronic preprogrammed controller constantly supervises the engine to ensure safe operating conditions at all times; the engine is easy to start and stop from the software interface, with automatic, optimal start-up and power-down sequences already set to assure minimum mechanical stresses, and there is no requirement for a compressed air supply or propane gas to start it. The engine software runs on a personal computer, requiring only a single USB interface between the electronic console and the PC, which enables simple installation into a test cell or soundproof enclosure.
