What Is the Depth Gauge Dial Type Used For?
Dial depth gauges are used in machine shops and inspection rooms to measure the depth of holes, slots, recesses and shoulders, where the reading must be taken from a flat reference surface. The operator places the lapped base across the opening, runs the measuring end down until it meets the bottom, sets it gently with the fine adjustment screw and reads the depth on the dial in thousandths of an inch. The optional wider extension base, sold separately, spans wider openings and gives a steadier seat on the work.
