What Are the Go / No Go Gauges Used For?

A go/no-go gauge does not give a size; it shows only whether a part is acceptable. With a thread plug gauge, the GO end should screw fully into a correctly made tapped hole, while the NO GO end should not run in beyond the first few turns; a hole that refuses the GO end or takes the NO GO end is outside tolerance. Inspectors and machinists use the set to sort tapped holes from M3 × 0.5 up to M12 × 1.75 quickly at the machine or the inspection bench, which helps keep parts interchangeable between processes and between different manufacturers.
