Infrared Thermometer

Product Code : EL-MAILE-10838

Infrared Thermometer (code EL-MAILE-10838) is a non-contact thermometer that works out the temperature of an object from the thermal radiation it gives off, for checks in cooking, HVAC, automotive and electrical work. It measures -50 to 380 °C (-58 to 716 °F) with an accuracy of ±2% or 2 °C and a 12:1 distance to spot ratio, has a red laser guide and a backlit LCD with data hold, and runs on an included 9 V battery.

What Is the Infrared Thermometer Used For?

Every object emits infrared radiation, and the amount rises with its temperature, so a thermometer that collects this radiation can read surface temperature without touching the surface. This suits hot, moving, electrically live or hard-to-reach surfaces, such as motors, wiring, ducts, engines and cooking surfaces. The user aims with the red laser and takes the reading on the display; with a 12:1 distance to spot ratio the measured spot is one twelfth of the distance to the target, so the target must fill that spot. Readings apply to inanimate objects only, and human or animal temperatures will not be correct.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of infrared thermometers required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature range does it cover?
It measures from -50 to 380 °C, or -58 to 716 °F, with an accuracy of ±2% or 2 °C.

What does the 12:1 distance to spot ratio mean?
At 12 units of distance from the target, the thermometer measures a spot 1 unit across, so the target must be large enough to fill the measured spot at that distance.

Can it measure body temperature?
No. Its readings apply to inanimate objects only; the temperature it shows for humans or animals will not be correct.

How is it powered and how long does the battery last?
Power comes from a 9 V battery, supplied with it, giving an average battery life of 12 hours; there is also an auto shut-off and a low battery indicator.

What helps with aiming?
A built-in red laser guide marks the area being measured, and the reading appears on a backlit LCD with a data hold function.

Where is it typically used?
Typical uses include cooking and baking, barbecuing, HVAC work, automotive diagnostics and maintenance, electrical troubleshooting and home repairs.
