What Is the Lux Meter Used For?

Illuminance, measured in lux or in foot-candles (FC), tells how much light reaches a surface, and it is checked in laboratories, classrooms, workshops, drawing offices and stores where a task needs a set level of lighting. The user places the separate photo detector flat on the work surface, facing the light, and reads the level from the meter; auto-ranging picks the right one of the 3 ranges up to 50 000 lux, and peak or maximum hold keeps a reading for recording. Readings taken at several points show how evenly a room or bench is lit.
